At Oshanna Church of Spiritual Activism (Oshanna), we are on a mission to uphold our covenant to love our neighbors as ourselves so, we put our faith to work through creativity. We believe that it is our responsibility, as members of the body of Christ, to be honest and fair in our dealings; to seek justice, freedom, and the necessities of life for all people; and to use our talents and possessions as ones who must answer for them to God.
We believe that in each human, God stored a unique blueprint that gives us vast creativity, gifts and skills to contribute to society. Without a way to offer our God-given talents, especially the creative-leaning ones, the community suffers and our untapped potential could manifest as dis-ease in our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. Instead, we choose everlasting life. We choose to be good stewards of God’s creations and the creativity entrusted to us, in support of our neighbors.

Hello!
I’m Cortina.
Ever since I can remember, I have always been in awe of God and the majesty of the world around me. I was blessed to grow up in the rural South + Blue Ridge Mountains where there was always a neighbor lookin’ out, a church function to go to or a forest to explore. Still, I had so many questions. Later in life, I had the blessing to find my faith home in the Episcopal church and was encouraged to become a disciple of Jesus in my own way. That’s when I realized that my quest in life to serve others has always been tied to my faith, I just either didn’t know how to talk about it, or felt judged admitting I was on fire for Jesus and fiercely loyal to God. We live in a world where “coming out” as a Christian is just as dangerous as it was when Jesus walked, but my hope in forming Oshanna is that being a servant leader and faith-led can be a little less taboo.

Welcome to Artists Designing Evolution, where art is the vehicle to actualize equity, spark creative inquiry + reclaim the narrative. This is a space where imagination + community lead in response to systemic inequity and disparities. Whether you are seeking a culturally-rich travel experience, thought-provoking learning journeys, creative intervention, youth leadership programs, or a network for change makers, there are many flavors under the guise of adé PROJECT – the flagship artist residency of Cortina Jenelle Caldwell (+ guest artists and cooperators as often as possible!). To this end, we embody principles of cooperation with a five point theory of change – creative facilitation, entrepreneurship, service, training + education and storytelling. Organizing spaces in circle with other artists, educators, facilitators, young leaders, community farmers and historians has been a cornerstone of our success.
